Welcome

Dear Alumni,

As you know, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar has had its share of eventful times during its long history. It was founded in 1860 as an Art School, reformed as the State Bauhaus in 1919, reshaped into the College of Architecture and Civil Engineering in 1956 and then restructured as the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar in 1996. In just 150 years, the university went from a purely artistic academy to a modern college of technical and civil engineering sciences to an internationally recognised institution that reunites artistic and scientific study.

As alumni who have studied, researched or even worked here, you have had the chance to experience the evolution of the university and participate in its development. You left with your own very unique experience and are now respected ambassadors of this university and the city of Weimar – especially for incoming students.

Even after you complete your studies or take up employment elsewhere, we would like to stay in close contact with you in the future. You as our alumni are as important to us as our students, instructors, partners and sponsors – you also play a vital role in our International Bauhaus Network of Generations. We want to shape the future of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar together with you – through interdisciplinary projects, combining technology and design, and promoting the transfer of knowledge between theory and practice.

We urge you to actively support the International Bauhaus Network of Generations and stay in contact with us. And of course, I would be delighted to personally greet you, our esteemed alumni, at our alma mater!

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Karl Beucke

Vice-Chancellor of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar
