Short Curriculum Vitae
After studying computer science at the University of Paderborn, I worked at the same place in the Knowledge Based Systems Group. My PhD thesis is about algorithms and statistics for categorizing search in the area of information retrieval. Following this, I worked as a postdoctoral researcher in Prof. Stein's working group at the Bauhaus University Weimar.
Research
My research interests lie in the area of machine learning, data mining, and Web technology, with a focus on information retrieval. Some recent projects in which I participate can be found here - they include the following IR topics.

- authorship attribution and verification
- near duplicate detection

- software engineering for IR

I have also won the following awards:
- 2008 Winner of the Spock Challenge. The project and our team is described here.
- 2006 Award of Appreciation (best paper on text mining track) at the conference of Germany's classification society (GfKl) 2006.
- 2004 European Academic Software Award for AIsearch, a categorizing search engine.
Professional Activities
I regularly serve as PC member of the conferences / workshops I-KNOW, SIGIR, TIR, PAN.
