backup is a festival for film and video productions which employ digital tools and is regarded as a barometer of developments in the field of New Media.

Since 2002 Bauhaus FM has been the radio station of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and Franz Liszt School of Music in Weimar. It is an open initiative for all those interested from diverse backgrounds and disciplines. Using the Experimental Radio Studio at the Faculty of Media, Bauhaus FM provides students with an opportunity to broadcast under professional conditions.

MEDIACITY is an interdisciplinary project shared across the departments of Architecture, Media and Urban Sociology at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. MEDIACITY wants to transfer outstanding international knowledge to intensify the research of the Bauhaus-University on the interdisciplinary field of media studies, architecture and urban studies. It aims to research solutions for urban development in a knowledge based society. Professor Jens Geelhaar, Chair Interface Design at Faculty of Media, joins in the project.

Graduate training programme: The programme investigates the correlations between media, history and how history was been written since the 19th century. It concentrates on historical and theoretical aspects and the interrelationship between the representation of history and media technology.

Unique in Germany: The German TV channel MDR FERNSEHEN is to air a programme series dedicated to student films.
The first programme was aired on the 11th October 2006 with twelve examples of outstanding student film work undertaken in three states in Germany. A series of nine programmes are planned for “unicato” during the winter and summer semesters 2006/2007. The aim is to establish the magazine as a permanent slot in MDR FERNSEHEN’s cultural TV programme. The films featured in “unicato” are the work of students of media and design studies in Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia. “unicato” is produced in cooperation with the chair for Media Events at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar as part of the “Filmsharing” project. From now students can contribute their film projects.
