    Media Management

    The aim of the research-oriented Media Management Master's programme is to acquire in-depth knowledge of issues relating to media, media management and media economics. Studies focus on management and its specific role in the context of Media Culture and Media Art and Design and help students develop the skills necessary to act independently, responsibly, and innovatively based on an interdisciplinary awareness. The coursework encompasses four main areas of focus: the three core subject areas of media management, media marketing and media economics and a fourth topic area encompassing media legislation, philosophy, theory, history and sociology. The standard duration of studies for the Media Management Master's programme is four semester. In the fourth semester, students write their master's thesis. After successful completion of the course and thesis, the Faculty of Media awards the qualification of “Master of Arts”.

    The degree programme is a joint initiative of the Chair for Media Management, the Chair for Marketing and Media Research, the new Chair for Media Economics and International Management and the Junior Professorship for Strategic Management and Digital Economics.

    The Media Management Master's programme is aimed at students who wish to acquire business and economic knowledge of the media sector and of the management of media enterprises. The course prepares students for management positions in the media industry, for associated freelance occupations and for further academic careers in higher education. Potential fields of occupation include: management positions in media businesses, marketing, publicity, media consulting, advertising, public relations, media research and media planning, film production and promotion, editing, publishing and the training and communication of media competencies.
