Application
Media Art and Design, Bachelor of Fine Arts
The Bachelor’s programme in Media Art and Design begins each winter semester.
The prerequisite for admission is the Allgemeine Hochschulreife (German higher education entrance qualification) or equivalent qualification. Applicants must also pass an artistic aptitude test, the specifics of which are determined by the Qualifying Examination Regulations in Media Art and Design. In the case of outstanding artistic talent, applicants may be admitted without the German higher education entrance qualification.
Applications should be submitted by 31st March of each year and should include a cover letter, a Curriculum Vitae in tabular form and a stamped addressed envelope (size: C5).

Media Art and Design, Master of Fine Arts
Students can begin this course of studies in either the winter or summer semester.
Application and Admissions Procedures:
The prerequisite for admission to the degree programme is either a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Media Art and Design from the Faculty of Media or a first university degree recognized as professionally relevant by the responsible examination board. Applicants must also pass an aptitude test based on their artistic portfolio. The specifics of this are determined by the Qualifying Examination Regulations in Media Art and Design.
Application submissions should include the following:
1. Cover letter (letter of motivation, incl. nomination of intended specialisation from the degree programme in Media Art and Design)
2. Curriculum Vitae in tabular form
3. Unauthenticated copies of previous academic certificates
4. Portfolio of creative work, containing DVD, CD or print versions of own work
5. German language certificate (DSH 1)*
* Language requirements for international students:
In order to be admitted to the Master's programme, international students are required to provide proof of German language skills (level DSH 1 or TestDaF3). For further information or questions concerning these requirements, please contact Johanna Theuerkauf at: Johanna.theuerkauf(at)uni-weimar.de.
If you only have German language skills of level A1 (beginner’s level) but English language skills of level C1 (advanced level), we recommend that you apply for our English-language study programme in Media Art and Design (MAD).

We will then check whether your enrolment is valid on the basis of the documents you have submitted (previous academic certificates and proof of language skills).

Applications for the artistic aptitude test should be submitted (date of post mark) by 15th May (winter semester) or 31st January (summer semester).

English-Language Study Programme in Media Art and Design (MAD), Master of Fine Arts

Joint Study Programme in Integrated International Media Art and Design Studies (IIMDS), Master of Fine Arts/Master of Literature
The Joint study programme in IIMDS begins each summer semester.
Application and Admissions Procedures:
The prerequisite for admission to the joint study programme in IIMDS is either a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Media Art and Design from the Faculty of Media or a first university degree recognized as professionally relevant by the responsible examination board. Applicants must also pass an aptitude test based on their artistic portfolio. The specifics of this are determined by the Qualifying Examination Regulations in Media Art and Design.
As part of this test, there will be a selection procedure in the form of an interview, which will take place every February. Candidates should have good professional and language proficiency skills and be highly motivated. Successful candidates will be admitted to the IIMDS joint study programme.

2. Curriculum Vitae in tabular form
3. Unauthenticated copies of previous academic certificates
4. Portfolio of creative work, containing DVD, CD or print versions of own work
