Mareike Maage was born on March 4^th 1979 in Hanover and finished her High School diploma in Apenrade, Denmark in 1998. In 1999 she studied Fine Arts at the Bauhaus- University in Weimar, focusing on Experimental Radio, Radio Play, and Radio Art.

In 2002, with fellow students, Maage initiated the campus-radio “Bauhaus.FM.” She also received an exchange scholarship to Japan, and won the radio Thüringer Landesmedienanstalt prize in the category of Unpublished History for the production “MeaeromatDCX3000.” Her radio work “Thought and its Country,” assigned by the Journalist Academy and Radio Z in Nuernberg, attained  the Alternative Media award in 2004. During her studies she arranged several exhibitions and worked as a freelance journalist for the North German Broadcasting Corporation in Hanover, as well as writer for the Bavarian Broadcasting Corporation. In February 2005 Maage received a Diploma in Fine Arts.

In 2006 she lived in Tokyo as a stipend recipient of the Japanese government and the DAAD. During her stay she worked as a research student at the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music and presented her artistic work in different exhibitions.

In Japan she co-operated with the radio drama department of the national broadcast Corporation NHK and organized a bilingual radio drama co-production between NHK and the NDR. In March 2007 she returned to Germany as recipient of the graduate scholarship of the Free State of Thuringia.

From 2007 to 2010 she worked as a lecturer at the Bauhaus University in Weimar. Maage currently works as an assistant director for the North German Broadcasting Corporation, and as writer for the West German Broadcasting Corporation.
