The Cost of Studying in Weimar

When planning your studies at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, you should consider how much money you will need for your living expenses. Weimar is a relatively small city with only 65,000 inhabitants. The cost of living is definitely cheaper here than in larger German cities like Berlin, Hamburg or Munich. This applies particularly to bus fares and the prices in cafés and restaurants. The meals at the student cafeteria are also significantly cheaper. Nonetheless, you should expect living expenses of no less than 600 euro per month. It would be a shame if you had to cut your studies short due to a lack of money.

The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar does not require any documentation concerning your financial situation. However, you are required to submit proof of financial support when applying for a residence visa at a German embassy. Weimar`s municipal Immigration Office also requires such proof before issuing residence permits.

You can expect the following expenses each month:

Books and materials

30,00 EUR

Accommodation

210,00 EUR

Food

250,00 EUR

Health insurance

70,00 EUR

Miscellaneous

50,00 EUR

Total (approx.)

610,00 EUR

You are also required to pay the following fees each semester:

Semester fee                            128.70 EUR
