After arriving in Weimar
In order to stay in Germany, you will have to officially register with several agencies after you've arrived.
Health insurance
All students enrolled at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar must be insured through a public health insurance provider. A student policy costs approximately 70 euros per month. Once you have signed up for health insurance, your provider will issue you a letter confirming your coverage. Please bring this letter with you when you enrol at university. Students over 30 years of age are required to take out an optional or private health insurance policy (for example: www.auslandsversicherung.de – comfort class). Public health insurance covers all medical and dental treatment, prescribed medication and stays at hospital. In some cases, patients are required to pay a surcharge for certain services.
EU students:
You make seek medical treatment from any doctor by presenting your EU Health Insurance Card (EHIC) or provisional replacement certificate. Coverage through a German public or private health insurance provider is not necessary.
Registering at the Resident Registration Office
As soon as you have moved into a student hall of residence or private accommodation in Weimar, you must inform the authorities of your place of residence. All residents of Germany are required to register with their municipal Resident Registration Office within one week after moving to a new address. The Resident Registration Office is also responsible for issuing income tax cards, which you may need if you intend to seek gainful employment.
