Recognition of academic credit
You can receive credit toward your degree programme for academic work completed abroad, especially if the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and the foreign partner university have made an agreement to this end (bilateral exchange programmes only).
The faculty or responsible examination committee oversees the transfer of academic credit received abroad, based on the study and examination regulations of the degree programme. Students must contact the university instructor who is responsible for his or her subject of study in advance in order to ensure that course work completed abroad will be recognised by the faculty.
To learn the German equivalent of grades received abroad (European countries only), view our conversion table (non-binding).
Leave of absence or re-registration?
[Translate to english:] You can decide whether you would like to re-register or take a leave of absence for the time you study abroad (as per § 13 or § 14 of the enrolment regulations). For more information about leaves of absence, visit the Student Office website.
Please note: Domestic BAföG payments are suspended during leaves of absence!
Therefore, we do not recommend taking a leave of absence while you are studying abroad. Thanks to new academic reforms which make it easier to recognise foreign academic achievement (learning agreements, standardised transcripts), semesters of foreign study are more frequently recognised as equivalent to those completed at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar.
