The PROMOS Programme by the DAAD
PROMOS – Mobility Programme for German Students and Doctoral Candidates
The DAAD’s new PROMOS Programme offers additional financing to students who wish to study abroad or complete a foreign internship. The Free Mover Scholarship Programme (FMS) has been integrated into the PROMOS Programme, which means that German students are eligible for scholarships even if they study in a non-European country. Candidates may also apply for scholarships to finance foreign internships.
Study and research visits
German students and doctoral candidates may apply for a PROMOS scholarship for study/research visits abroad lasting one to six months.
The scholarship does not cover the cost of tuition.
If the candidate wishes to study abroad in an ERASMUS member country, he or she may only receive a PROMOS scholarship if no ERASMUS partnership exists at the university in question. The exception to the rule applies to those who have already received funding through ERASMUS and are therefore ineligible for further ERASMUS funding (e.g. the Free Mover Programme which is now integrated in this programme).
Internships
German students and doctoral candidates may apply for a PROMOS scholarship to finance international internships lasting 6 weeks to 6 months. Because of possible overlap with the ERASMUS internship programme, scholarships cannot be awarded for internships in EU countries, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway or Turkey.
The PROMOS scholarship is comprised of a monthly mobility allowance and a lump-sum travel expense allowance.
The application deadline for study/research visits between June and December 2010 is 4 May 2010.
