Foreign exchange programmes at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar
The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar offers its students the chance to study abroad during their degree programmes thanks to bilateral student exchange agreements it has made with partner universities.
- Student mobility, supported by the European Union's ERASMUS student exchange programme (funded by a mobility allowance) and equivalent agreements with universities in Switzerland
- Student mobility, supported by the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar's bilateral exchange programmes (not directly funded with a mobility allowance, but rather a grant as specified in the programme's description)
- Student mobility, supported by international exchange programmes in which the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar participates (occasionally funded by a mobility allowance, otherwise as specified in the programme's description)
The advantages of participating in a foreign exchange programme:
- Application and selection process takes place at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar.
- Candidates are not required to apply for regular admission at the host university abroad.
- The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar recognises academic credit received abroad on the basis of the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS), the ECTS Learning Agreement and the ECTS Transcript of Records
- fileadmin/uni/files/iso/out/formulare/transcript.pdfCandidates receive financial aid, e.g. tuition fee waivers, mobility allowances and free student accommodation. Binding conditions concerning financial support are provided in the programme's description.
- Host universities offer their foreign exchange students special support, e.g. free or inexpensive language courses and allocation of student accommodation.
All students currently enrolled at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar are eligible to participate. However, the faculties may require their students to meet additional admission criteria.
Please note:
- Students may participate in the ERASMUS Student Mobility Programme only once, even after transferring to a different university.
- Candidates are not eligible for a mobility allowance if they have received scholarships from other institutions (with the exception of BAföG)
- Students are required to spend a minimum of 3 months and a maximum of 12 months in the foreign exchange programme.
- Students may also receive funding through the ERASMUS Foreign Internship Programme.
Application details and submission deadline:
- The number and type of available spots in foreign exchange programmes are announced in November/December.
- The submission deadline for applications is the middle of January.
Foreign exchange announcement for the academic year 2011/2012
If spots are still available following the conclusion of the first selection round, they are announced again in two to three weeks' time. Following the second round, the selection process is concluded and all unfilled spots are withdrawn. Subsequent applications and nominations for placement in a foreign exchange programme are not permitted.
Please note:
In rare cases, the partner university may break its contractual agreement by refusing to accept a nominated candidate, particularly those studying Art and Design. There are three basic reasons for rejection:
- There is no space available in the workshops, projects or design groups.
- Based on the submitted portfolio, the university concludes that it cannot provide the candidate with adequate instruction or academic supervision.
- The partner university terminates its ERASMUS agreement with the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar during the selection process.
The International Office has no influence on such decisions.
