Major funding programmes

In the following we present a selection of funding programmes to which members of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar frequently apply. The following is only a selection and is updated regularly.


Congress and Lecture Travel Funding Programme (DAAD, Website in German only)

Funding programme for academics (and doctoral candidates) to cover the cost of attending foreign congresses and lectures

  • Funding covers: travel expenses, conference fees, fixed accommodation allowance
  • Maximum funding period: 8 days
  • Applications for travel funding to a congress must be submitted to the DAAD at least four months prior to the first day of the congress.
  • Applications for travel funding to a lecture must be submitted to the DAAD at least one month before the date of departure. 

Study trips to Weimar (DAAD, in German only)
Funding for German student groups travelling abroad and foreign student groups travelling to Germany to cover the cost of study trips and academic internships.

Funding period: min. 7 days and max. 12 days

Please note: Each applicant may only apply for funding for one trip per year.

Submission deadlines:

  • 1 February for trips planned after 1 June
  • 1 May for trips planned after 1 September
  • 1 November for trips planned after 1 March


Project-based Personnel Exchange Programme (DAAD, Website in German only)

The DAAD and its partner organizations in countries around the world have established bilateral programmes to intensify academic cooperation. This funding programme supports German academics who engage in joint research projects with foreign partners.


Intensive programmes (DAAD, Website in German only)

An intensive programme is a compact academic programme lasting two to six weeks, for example, in the form of a summer school or block seminar. Such projects are coordinated by a European university and carried out in cooperation with at least two other ERASMUS partner universities in two other countries.

Short-term teaching grants (DAAD, Website in German only)

Teaching at a university abroad can be funded, providing the stay is at a minimum of four weeks, and a maximum of six months long. Before handing in a proposal, please maake sure to contact the Human Resources Department or the International Office!


DFG funding

The German Research Foundation (DFG) funds especially innovative projects with an interdisciplinary approach which particularly enhance European cooperation.
