Master Programmes EU/AdUrb

Requirements for study permission
Main requirement for permission to study is a university degree (or similar) from a German or international university in the disciplines of architecture, interior architecture, landscape architecture, urban planning, regional planning, civil engineering, geography, urban and architectural sociology, ecological science or comparable spatially oriented sciences. In case of doubt, the examination board determines upon qualification.

For both Master Courses proof of good knowledge of the English language is required. However, aquiring skills in German is recommended in order to orient oneself in the host country.

Application documents
The following documents are necessary for a complete application:

  1. completed application form for suitability determination (see above)
  2. completed form for online-application (access to the online-portal: http://www.uni-weimar.de/cms/index.php?id=1865&L=1)
  3. letter of motivation, 1 page
  4. up to three samples of your work (e.g. drafts or models of architectural or urban design, publications, Master or Bachelor thesis) all sent as digital versions on a CD only
  5. permission to study at a university (certified copy of high school diploma, Abitur, A-Level, report card or similar)
  6. university degree or similar including all relevant study results (courses and grades) if they are not listed in the degree documents (certified copy). Documents not in German or English need to be submitted in a certified translated version, German or English.
  7. proof of English language skills:
    TOEFL-test, minimum 550 points (paper based), 213 points (computer  based) or 79 points (internet based)
    Cambridge Certificate in advanced English, level C
    IELTS, Band 6.0
    UNIcert, level 3
    or similar.
    Exceptions are possible, if studies have been completed in English or foreign exchange studies in English speaking countries can be documented.

is June 25th of the current year.

CAUTION: Applicants from China for the Master Programme AdUrb are required to apply directly at the Tongji University in Shanghai for the AdUrb-Study Programme as offered there.


Applicants from China for the Master Programme EU
Prior to applying, all application documents must be subject to review of the Office for Academic Evaluation („Akademische Prüfstelle“), an interview there is also necessary. Following this procedure, please send us your application including the original certificate from the Office for Academic Evaluation.

Process of application
After receiving your complete application with all required documents, interviews for qualification evaluation take place in July for the following winter semester, to which you will receive an invitation in due time. The interviews take place at the Institute for European Urbanism (IfEU), Belvederer Allee 5, in Weimar. Competence regarding discipline and language are tested during the qualification evaluation. An interview lasts approximately 30 minutes. Students living outside of Germany and who do not have the possibility of traveling to the interview may be exempt from the qualification evaluation. Your qualification will be evaluated according to the documentation submitted in your application.

Study fees
Master programme EU
There are no study fees except for regular semester contributions (approx. 130 EUR per semester).

Master programme AdUrb
For the exchange semester (2nd and 3rd semester), the particular partner university which hosts the exchange charges a handling fee of totally 2,000 EUR. (The handling fee does not include travel costs, health insurance, accomodation or aliment.) Beyond that regular semester contributions (approx. 130 EUR per semester) are charged.

Scholarships
We would like to point out that the Institute of European Urban Studies does not supply scholarships.
