Course auditing

The university accepts applications from individuals who wish to audit courses in order to expand or deepen their knowledge in a particular area of expertise.

The current course catalogue provides information to help non-enrolled students choose appropriate courses. Non-enrolled students are required to enter the names of the courses on their registration application form, available from and processed by Department of Continuing Education.
Providing the courses are indeed offered in that semester, the university issues the individual a “non-enrolled student ID”, with which the student is allowed to audit the course(s) s/he has applied for. However, non-enrolled students are not permitted to take examinations.
For courses of study with restricted admission policies, non-enrolled students can only participate with the dean’s prior approval. Furthermore, non-enrolled students can only audit courses in a main course of study for which there is space.

Non-enrolled students are required to pay tuition fees, the amount of which depends on how many courses are audited. In accordance with its regulations for fees, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar charges non-enrolled students the following tuition fees per semester:

  • up to 4 hrs. of instruction per week - € 30.00
  • up to 6 hrs. of instruction per week - € 38.00
  • up to 12 hrs. of instruction per week - € 46.00
  • over 12 hrs. of instruction per week - € 61.00

Non-enrolled students can receive a certificate of participation for the courses they audit.
