Seminar
"Disquiet Lisbon: Sensorial urbanism for a sensual city"
Dipl.-Ing. MFA Daniela Brasil Note/Testat, 3 ECTS/2 SWS
Lisbon is one of the most charming European capitals. Is it due to how the urban tissue spread itself upon the geographical conditions - over and in between hills, delineated by river and sea - or to the way people use and live those spaces? This class proposes a technique of Spatial Research that concentrates itself on the perception and appropriation of constructed spaces within daily life. Inspired by the situacionists, we well drift into landscapes through poetic narratives - like Wenders' "Lisbon Story" or Tanner's "Dans la ville blanche". The working material relies, therefore, on urban readings through literature and cinema, rather than traditional formalistic approaches. Conceptual tools and methods for urban planning and design will explore urban space as a sum of cultural practices. Fostering the idea that the city exists within embodied experiences, different modes of spatial perception and urban behaviors will be outlined as key plots for a sensorial urbanism.
