Video at Weimar:

Bauhaus-Universität Weimar - Fakultät Gestaltung

In 1993, the department Gestaltung (art and design) was newly installed as part of the Bauhaus University at Weimar/Germany. The school, which is the founding place of the Bauhaus, now offers fine art, visual communication and product design as courses of formal studies. This unique place for academic studies of art and design in the federal state of Thuringia (and the only one that was newly founded in the Eastern states of Germany) favours an interdisciplinary way of project-oriented and self-

determined learning. Practical design work is accompanied by a broad selection of theoretical courses. Electronic media tools are of special importance at Weimar. The department's in- depth courses for all videoshop offers introductory andart and design students that want to work with moving electronic images. Teachers, technicians and student tutors help their audiovisual ideas and concepts to take shape. A video studio with professional camera, sound and lighting equipment (including chroma keying facility) is at their disposal, as well as postproduction in analogue (Hi8, S-VHS, betacam UVW) and digital formats

(Macintosh/Premiere, StrataSphere). Student work has regularly been shown in public, in project presentations, such as Projekt Satyrn, Fliegen, Rokoko (Prof. Elfi Fröhlich) at the Belvedere '96, Projekt The Body und Hello Dolly! (Prof.Liz Bachhuber) at E-Werk, Weimar '96,'97,'98, Projekt Tschernobyl (Prof.Holzwarth) '96, Projekt Kunsthonig (Prof. Wentscher) at the German Bee Museum, Weimar '97, and also on the occasion of the yearly Rundgang (open house exhibit) in mid-july, and at specific events at the ACC gallery, Weimar, for instance, at the 4th Thuringian Media
